Life is in the space between expectations

I have discovered that life is not in our expectations, but in the space between them.

We often have these expectations that are imposed upon us or self-imposed that come from a system or a person. And when those are not met, we feel this tension. It’s a tension between human time and divine time. We’re in living in abundance, and that can create a sense of control over our outcomes. So when an outcome doesn’t come about the way we want it, we feel not only like it’s broken, but it’s betrayal. That’s where our trust issues come from. But to reconcile this, expectations in this world can be held lightly while faith anchors on the belief that ultimately resolution and deliverance will occur, but on God’s terms.

President Nelson’s Expect Miracles. Let’s think about that. His teaching encourages an openness to divine intervention, but not entitlement to a specific timing or form. Often, if you are caught in the expectations rather than the space between, you may feel unhappiness in your life... The tension between our time and God’s divine time is tense indeed. But this is what I would say is look at the space between the expectations in your life. Find meaning there. Find happiness, find joy, find solace, find stillness in space between the expectations.
